Actos (Pioglitazone)
General information
Actos is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels. It is for people with type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. The drug is sometimes used in combination with insulin or other medications such as glipizide, glyburide, metformin hydrochloride.
Directions
Take Actos exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results. The medicine is usually taken at the same time once a day. You may take Actos with or without food. Your blood sugar will need to be checked often. Visit your doctor regularly.
Precautions
You should not use Actos if you are allergic to pioglitazone, if you have severe heart failure, if you have active bladder cancer, or if you are in a state of diabetic ketoacidosis. Call your doctor for treatment with this drug and also inform if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using Actos.
Possible side effect
This medicine may cause side effects heartbeat, perspiration, disarray, giddy, weakness, shakiness, disarray, starvation.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once. Overdose can cause diabetes symptoms, weakness, blurred vision,disarray, trouble speaking, shaking, stomach pain, and convulsions.
Drug ineractions
Tell your doctor about all other medicines you use, especially: low blood sugar drugs or natural products. Don't use contraceptives which may result in pregnancy.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature in watertight package. Store away from moisture and light.
